Thank you for inviting me to share my passion for helping others with you. I have always felt this was my calling and am enthusiastic about working with you. The whole you, embracing culture, gender, age, abilities, etc. I recognize that many of us have life challenges and sometimes we think we are the only ones. We are not! I am here to help you manoeuvre your way to a healthy state of being. Your health and well-being are my priority. We will work collaboratively, in a safe, non-judgmental, and mutually respectful space. We will begin from the point you are at and move forward to aid you in managing or resolving your challenges. Leading with empathy, authenticity, compassion, and vulnerability has helped me to relate to others in a manner that allows for inclusivity, and diversity, while focusing on being open to learning of our similarities and differences, staying humble, and continuously aware of cultural factors that inform us. I have honed these skills through my years of experience in outreach, advocacy, and support work with clients in the field of social services, and human resources. A passion for creating and maintaining a healthy therapeutic relationship with you directs my use of a person-centred approach, reflecting empathy, genuineness, and unconditional positive regard. My work is based on evidence of theories and therapies proven to work, as well as the strengths you bring with you. This is all done with a trauma informed, and internal family systems informed, approach. Some concerns that may resonate with you at present, but may not be limited to, are: • Anxiety - Anxiousness or worry about events in your life, about others, or the world in general… • Stress - Stressing about work related matters; family, or life events that may cause poor sleep hygiene, poor diet, and multiple physical concerns… • Depression - Low energy, loss of interest in things that were once joyful, hopelessness, extreme sadness… • Relationships - Concerns about your relationship, attributed to finances, communication, infidelity, life goal changes… • Health - Multiple emotional concerns relating to daily struggles with health and pain management, or after life changing medical events such as a stroke, having Covid-19… • Self-Esteem - Seeking ways to increase your self-talk from negative, critical and self-blame, shift from being a people pleaser and working on boundaries to increase self-esteem, self-confidence… • Grief and Loss - Seeking understanding and strategies related to the emotions and physical sensations you are experiencing from grief and loss… • Childhood Issues - Working on concerns from your childhood that continue to affect you today

By using a variety of approaches to offer support, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused therapy (SFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance and Commitment (ACT), Mindfulness, and other effective interventions, we can tailor your therapy to address your concerns. My educational background consists of a Bachelor of Arts degree, in Psychology from the University of Alberta, and a Master of Arts degree in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor as well as a Canadian Certified Counsellor. I look forward to helping you on your journey.

Hi! My name is Gerardo. I have been a visitor on lək̓ʷəŋən (Lekwungen) and W̱SÁNEĆ (Saanich) lands on Coast Salish territory (Greater Victoria, Vancouver Island) for the past 16 years, starting with my undergraduate studies in psychology, followed by a Master’s degree in Indigenous Communities Counselling Psychology.

My clinical studies included a practicum with Aboriginal Child and Youth Mental Health (MCFD). After graduating, I worked at a youth residential addictions recovery program, and currently, I am a child and youth mental health therapist at Hulitan (huh-lee-tan), serving urban and on-reserve Indigenous families.

I am able to provide treatment for addictions, anxiety, depression, trauma stemming from abuse, PTSD, chronic pain, grief and loss. I also work with other less “heavy mental health” areas of self-esteem, personal growth and goals, and nutrition support. I am also available to help folks process situations that involved racism or discrimination. I have training in sand play therapy, EMDR, narrative therapy, DBT, and ACT.
